Cashy: A Playful Font for Bold Branding

I was staring at a blank brand board the other day, trying to find that perfect spark for a new client project—a cozy café with a retro vibe. The brief was simple: create a visual identity that felt warm, inviting, and just a little bit whimsical. I knew the right font could make or break the whole look, so I started testing different options. That’s when I stumbled upon Cashy.

Cashy is a playful display typeface, and from the first moment I saw it, I knew it had potential. Its curves are soft yet confident, and there's a sense of joy in every stroke. It feels like it was designed to catch attention without being too loud. This kind of balance is rare, especially in display fonts, which often lean too heavily into either boldness or subtlety.

I began by placing Cashy on a logo draft. The client wanted something that felt like a neighborhood hangout spot, not a chain café. Cashy fit perfectly—its rounded edges and gentle ascenders gave off that friendly, approachable vibe. I even tried it on a mockup of a shop sign and business cards. It looked great on both large and small scales, which is always a plus when designing for multiple touchpoints.

As I moved through the branding process, I found Cashy worked well as a headline font. It didn’t overpower the supporting text but still commanded attention. For example, when paired with a clean sans serif font like Helvetica Neue for body copy, the contrast made the design feel balanced and modern. Cashy added character without clashing, which is crucial when building a cohesive brand system.

I also tested Cashy on packaging mockups. The client wanted their coffee bags and mugs to stand out on shelves, and Cashy delivered. On a mug, the font wrapped around the handle nicely, and on a bag, it sat comfortably above the product name. It wasn’t too busy, which helped keep the overall design clean and legible.

One thing I noticed early on was how well Cashy handled short-form text. Whether it was a tagline, a menu item, or a social media post, it felt natural and engaging. It had that “just-right” energy that made everything feel more personal. I even used it on an Instagram post mockup, and it stood out against the colorful background without needing any extra effects.

Of course, I couldn’t ignore the practical side of using a font in a full brand system. I checked the available styles and weights, and Cashy offered enough variety to be versatile. There were alternates and ligatures that added a nice touch to headlines and logos. Plus, the file formats were solid, making it easy to use across web and print projects.

Font pairing was another consideration. Cashy’s playful nature made it a great match for a serif font like Georgia or a minimalist sans serif like Lato. When used together, they created a nice contrast that kept the design dynamic. I even experimented with a handwritten font for accents, which added a personal touch without overwhelming the main typeface.

For clients who are unsure about using a display font in their brand, I recommend testing it in different contexts before committing. Start with a few key applications—like a logo, a website header, and a social media graphic. See how it behaves in those spaces. If it works well in those areas, it’s likely a good fit for the rest of the brand materials.

Cashy isn’t just a font; it’s a design tool that can shape how your brand is perceived. It brings warmth, playfulness, and personality to any project. Whether you’re working on a small boutique, a creative studio, or a local restaurant, Cashy has the versatility to adapt and shine in various scenarios.

As I finalized the brand assets, I felt confident that Cashy was the right choice. It brought the café’s identity to life in a way that felt authentic and unique. And honestly, that’s what every designer wants—to find that one element that makes the whole project click.
